THE BOYS ARE BACK IN TOWN

LIke Take That on their comeback tour (or should that be the Rolling Stones considering the team), after a few years absence, the long awaited 3rd XI was unveiled to the public!

Jonesy gave a Gettysburg style address to raise the morale of his band of brothers, before dispatching his finely balanced team, a mixture of youth and long in the tooth, onto the field of play for this first match against OPMs. The home side had the better of the opening exchanges and led 2- 1 at half-time. Having blown off the cobwebs of the closed season, Torbay really turned on the pressure, dominated territory and possession and scored 5 unanswered goals in the second period and it could have been more. Particularly good performances from the three junior members of the team -   Jones (E), Perry and Barnes who slotted in well alongside the more experienced (old) players. The shape of things to come in a brave new world? Good to see the return of wily defender Matt Fox adding his knowledge and guile to the defensive side of the team.

A promising start but surely tougher challenges will have to be met in the future.
