Torbay 2nd Mens Vs Truro B

A very wet Truro hosted the first league match of the season for the Torbay Mens' 2nd Team.

Torbay started brightly, moving the ball well, keeping possession away from the opposition for long periods.  This sustained retention saw some excellent forward play, which resulted in a few early penalty corners.  Kai Horsburgh fired the first opportunity past the goal keeper into the corner of the goal, only to see the ball cleared off the line by a defender.

The next penalty corner was switched left where John Julyan had time to take a touch before firing Torbay into the lead through a composed strike beyond the robust Truro defence.

Torbay continued to play well, but as the rain took hold of the game, passes started to go astray and Truro grabbed a foothold in the game, equalising from their very first penalty corner and first shot on goal.

Torbay made it 2-1 before half time following some good interplay and a firm pass from Kai to Ben Till, who used the pace of the pass to deflect the ball into the corner of the net.

The second half was a much more scrappy affair, as the conditions took hold and grip on the stick started to fail.  Truro threw everything they had forward, but the Torbay defence held strong, defending a number of penalty corners towards the end of the game.

There was a man of the match performance from Lewie Jones and stand-in keeper Simon Street made some good saves, especially in the first half.  There was a flurry of green cards for the Torbay team, but this only underlined the commitment shown by the team in earning a hard fought 3 points.
