Match Report | "Say we are top of the league, we are top of the league" at least for today! One league game, one league win, five goals scored and none conceeded. A terrific league opening performance in torrential rain away at Plymouth University's Lipson bowl saw Torbay's thirds stick five poast the hapless students. Late call up Nick Avery opened the scoring, skipper Jones bagged another goal to add to his tally with a precision lob over a University keeper hoplessly stranded out of position. Further goals by Nick Avery, Euan Jones and a neatly finished short corner routine by Euan Jones compounded the misery for the inexperienced University side. At the other end the defence, superbly marshalled by Chris Reeves, comfortably kept Uni's attack at bay, to such an extent that Dazza "the cat" Hales was reduced to a spectator for much of the game. Graduates of the junior section, Jones, Dennison, Deakin and Bradley all put in strong performances to stake claims for future inclusion and demonstrated the depth of squad in the club that is now available for selection. Next week sees a home game, with the team pitted against a Tavistock side that will be eager to bounce back from a 3 - 1 home defeat to Caradon. |
